How to Permanently Log Out of Your Ring Doorbell When You Move

Let’s face it—moving is a mess of cardboard boxes, bubble wrap, and things you forgot you owned. You’re probably thinking about forwarding your mail, not your doorbell. But if you're selling your home (yay you!), there's one tiny digital detail you cannot forget to deal with before you hand over those keys: logging out of your Ring Doorbell.

As a real estate agent in Oregon City, Oregon, and a pro at home staging (yes, the throw pillow symmetry matters), I’ve seen far too many sellers forget this final step.

So here’s the no-BS walkthrough. Bookmark it. Share it.

Step-by-Step: How to Log Out of your Ring Doorbell before you move

  1. Open the Ring App (Obvious? Yes. But we’re starting at the top because we’re thorough and fabulous.)

  2. Tap the three lines (hamburger menu) in the upper left of the Dashboard

  3. Click “Devices”

  4. Select your doorbell

  5. Go to “Device Settings”

  6. Choose “General Settings”

  7. Scroll down and hit “Remove This Device” Boom. Ownership = released. Your work here is done, homeowner hero.

Why This Is a Big Deal (besides avoiding passive-aggressive texts from the new owners)

If you’re selling a home in the Portland metro area—especially Oregon City, West Linn, or anywhere in Clackamas County—you probably know the Ring doorbell is usually in the "pros" side of the pros and cons list. Security, convenience, and buyers love them.

But if you don’t remove yourself, the new homeowners literally can’t use it. That’s right. The doorbell becomes a decorative button until you release it. And nobody wants a sad, non-functional smart device staring at them from the porch that feels like someone is listening in on their conversations.

Real Estate Tip from Kristina (That’s Me 👋)

I help sellers prep their homes from first impression to final handoff. That includes making sure your home is staged like it belongs on the cover of Dwell and making sure your smart home features (like that Ring doorbell) are set up for a seamless transition.

Think of me as your Oregon City real estate guide, home staging whisperer, and low-key therapist when things get overwhelming. (Because they do. I get it.)

The Wrap-Up

Moving? Selling? Upgrading to a home with better Wi-Fi and a dedicated home office that doesn’t share space with your Peloton? (Dreams do come true.) Don’t forget to log out of your Ring.

And if you’re in the market to sell—or you need a second set of eyes to make your listing photo-worthy before it hits Zillow—I’ve got you.
